What Causes Persistent Digit Swelling?

I have pain and swelling in my big toe for over 6 weeks now. Went to my doctor and had blood test for uric acid . Test came back negative. She prescribed Indomethacin 50mg 3X a day. After 2 weeks toe felt better and I stopped using drug. But 10 days later toe swelled up again . Started using Indomethacin again for 2 weeks and toe better but still swollen. Could it be something else causing the the pain ?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
You must continue the meds. prescribed and consult a rheumatologist if it persists. In addition to uric acid level in blood, test of big toe joint fluid by aspiration may be required to see the pathology--urate crystals, etc.if confirmed,he maylike to add colchicine.
