What Causes Persistent Diarrhoea Post Hip Surgery?

I was in hospital overnight with labral hip surgery. 2 days after coming home I got diahorrea quite badly, thought it was voltaren 75mg I was taking so stopped. Stomach pains, cramps and diahorrea all eased, but I still have diahorrea twice a day 3 days after going off meds. Should I visit GP or just let it take its course.

Hi,

Its quite a common complaint to have diarrhea post surgery. It could be an infection or as a side effect of taking antibiotics which disturbs the balance of bacterial flora in the intestine. It usually resolves in a few days time after you stop taking antibiotics however I would advise you to consume yoghurt in good quantity along with tablet lactobacillus twice a day for 5 days. If the diarrhea worsens or doesn't get better in a week's time, then please get your stool culture test done to rule out any infection.
