What Causes Persistent Diarrhea Post A Hysterectomy?

I had a two pound cyst removed with a complete hysterectomy a year ago. I had severe uncontrollable diarrhea prior to the surgery, and I am still experiencing bouts of this after a year. I was told it can take up to a year for the intestines to recover from the cyst. Should I be concerned or could this be another health problem? I eat healthy and do take probiotics.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

As a first line management antimotility drugs like racecadotril can be tried. Drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated.

If symptoms persist better to go for an ultrasound scan to look for any intraabdominal collections.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
