What Causes Persistent Cough?

This past week while flying from Ohio to Arizona (including one layover), I developed a ridiculously persistent and totally nonproductive cough during the flight. During the past four full days that I ve been in Sedona, Arizona--and meanwhile taking regular doses of Maximum-Strength Mucinex Fast-Max Clear & Cool for Cold, Flu, & Sore Throat , whose Ingredients are Acetaminophen (pain reliever, fever reducer), Dextromethorphan (cough suppressant), Guaifenesin (Expectorant), and Phenylephrine HCL (nasal decongestant)--my cough has become almost constant, yielding some phlegm but not a ton. Would my healing likely be worsened by my taking a daylong train excursion tomorrow to the Grand Canyon and back?

Oncologist 's  Response
Hi,

A chronic cough is always a cause of concern for smokers... Dozens of conditions can cause a recurrent, lingering cough, but the lion's share is caused by just five: postnasal drip, asthma, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), chronic bronchitis, and treatment with ACE inhibitors, used for high blood pressure.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
