Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Persistent Cough With History Of Having Pneumonia In Children?
My son just got over pneumonia after taking his prescribed antibiotic and was cough free for 2 or 3 days. About the 3rd day just before we scheduled his follow up doctors appointment the cough starred again. Our family doctor listen to his lungs to see if the pneumonia was still present; she said his lungs sounded clear, she checked his ears and nose and said everything looked normal. Can someone please explain why or what could be causing his cough?
Thank you for sharing your query on Healthcaremagic, I have carefully worked through your case and I think your son have a severe allergic process or a viral bronchiolitis, that's the cause he doesn't improve with the antibiotic treatment I recommend to take antihistamine 3 times a day ( OTC ) humidify the air, drink enough fluids, try saline nose drops and VERY important maintain a free environment ( smoke, spray, perfumes , dust or any other inhalants) sometimes during the cough crisis an environment change can relieve the symptoms. Please kindly rate if my advise has been helpful and a brief review about your experience with me will be appreciated Wishing you a good health Dr Tania Portelles-Driggs
