What Causes Persistent Cough Along With Sore Throat And Body Aches?

I ve had a persistent , clear productive cough for over a month. A febrile. No sore throat or body aches. Constant runny nose. Cough comes in fits that last a while. Feels like it s both sinus related as well as upper respiratory . Zyrtec & guaifenesin do not help. Benadryl helps the runny nose a little but is sedative- can t take while working. I don t have asthma or copd. I do not smoke. I m a nude & work in a detention center with detainees who have colds, influenza, varicella & tuberculosis. Think this is bronchitis now? If so how to treat it?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to bronchitis. I suggest using anti inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen 400 mg. I also suggest using a mucolytic to help with the cough. If the symptoms continue, I suggest to use a cycle of antibiotics such as Augmentin 625 mg for a week.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
