What Causes Penis Skin Discoloration?

I am a school nurse. An instructional assistant reported to me today that she has noticed when she is changing the pull up on a kindergartener (not potty-trained, yet) that his penile glans is different colors sometimes. She says that it is red sometimes and at other times different shades of purple sometimes darker than other times. I just observed a pull up change and, right now, it looks normal to me. It is flesh-colored at the end and purplish where the glans meets the shaft. Her concern is trauma. His pants and pull ups are not too tight. Could trauma of some sort cause this discoloration at this age or is it normal as it seems to be with older males (based on what I ve been reading here). Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Changes in color of penis skin in a Kindergartner could indicate he might be having 'phimosis'. Kindly consult and get examined by a Surgeon.
In case it needs to be operated for cure at this stage, he needs to undergo circumcision.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
