What Causes Passing Thin Stools Despite Taking Miralax?

I have suffered from constipation all my life. To stay regular, I take Murilax almost on a daily basis. Lately, my stools are very small. So, I take more Murilax which ends in diarrhea. Once that it cleared up, it s back to very small stools (they are soft). Does it even matter the size of a stool as long as a person can go?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Miralax works by holding water in the stool to soften the stool and increases bowel movements. It is osmotic-type laxative so you have to balance the intake of drug as this drug has property to conserve water and in high doses it may cause diarrhea. You may try some other drug for your constipation
