What Causes Partial Numbness In The Big Toe?

For several weeks now, I have been experiencing partial numbness in my big toes. There is no pain. The degree of numbness varies from time to time, but its always there to some degree. It feels as if these toes were anesthetized, but the local anesthesia never completely wore off. I seem to remember that I stubbed these toes pretty hard earlier this year. (Not both at the same time). The trauma of stubbing my toes caused searing pain for a brief period of time after each incident. Could I be experiencing a form of neuropathy brought on by this trauma? Please note that I am NOT diabetic.
