What Causes Palpitaions?

I am a 22yr old female and I have been very nervous and a little emotional for the past month therefore I lost a little bit of weight. I have never been this skinny in my life but for the past month I have been able to actually feel my heart beating so hard that it feels like it is coming out of my chest. It is kinda starting to scare me. It happens alot when i'm laying down, probably because I am more aware of it at night. I drink alot of coffee but I always have. Any ideas as to why this is? Do skinnier people just feel their heartbeats more? Should I be concerned?

Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal.

Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query

You have yourself answered the query.
one of the commonest causes of palpitations is anxiety
ever felt your heart beat faster just before exams? thats due to anxiety'

and frankly coffee is going to increase your anxiety and alertness
so you should avoid that
it will only increase your palpitations

any new palpitations should be evaluated
so i would suggest a few tests
Complete hemogram- for anemia
Thyroid profile - for hyperthyroidism
echo- for cardiac lesions

I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above so i can be of help further. Best of luck.
