Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello.. my name is Jessica, I am 34 years old with no medical problems. I noticed swelling in my left eye lid about 2 months ago. The swelling has gotten so bad that my eye started to hurt. I went to the eye doctor and was given antibiotics with steroid drops. No improvement went to a specialist and was given antibiotic ointment with steroid still no improvement. The specialist also did some blood work that included a thyroid panel. My TPO was slightly elevated but my antithyroglobulin ab is a 7.6. Could this be causing my eyelid to swell. I do not have a follow up appointment for another 3 weeks so I wanted to know if this is a medical emergency. Thank you
A physical examination would help me better, so if at all you can then please do write to me using our premium service wherein you can at least attach images to our dicsussion for my examination.
But for now I believe this could be a stye, which is a staph infection of the eye lid (mostly involving the root of the eyelash as well). The condition is mildly painful and recurrent. The best advise I can give you now without an examination is to take steam inhalation several times a day (7-10) and most importantly apply a warm compress to the region, if possible every hourly or 2 hourly to the affected region.
Best wishes.
