What Causes Painful Red Spot And Tingling In Arms?

My daughter is away at school and has called me about a red spot that popped up on her arm in the elbow crease. She said she noticed it earlier today. It will change. Sometimes it s a bump (pimple like with no head) and then flatten out. And now she says it s larger than it was. And her arm is tingling both lower and into her shoulder. She had one of the occupational therapists she s is doing clinicals with check it and when they put pressure on the spot it was painful and caused the tingling. The OT also said it looks like her arm is slightly swelled. Any ideas what this could be? Thanks

Hello,

The following are few probable causes of your daughter's red swelling at the elbow:
1) Lipoma
2) Neurofibroma
3) Glioma
4) Sebaceous cyst
5) A bruise due to trauma

My advice is to consult a dermatologist for clinical examination in person and initiation of treatment. You don't need to panic. These are harmless swellings.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
