What Causes Painful Lump On The Left Side Of The Back And Chest Tightness?

I have a hard painful lump slightly to the left of my solar plexus. It hurts when laying on my back, bending over, and sometimes causes pain when I inhale. At times it feels like I have tightness in my chest and can feel the tightness from the lump. The lump cannot be seen but felt. I don t believe it s a small bone from the sternum and feels more like tissue than bone. It s painful to the touch and starting to become bothersome. In 2008 I had a germ cell tumor removed from my media stinum which turned out to be testicular cancer. The tumor was the primary and nothing was noticed on the testes. I did not have chemo or radiation, just watch and waiting with several CT scans throughout the 5 yr watching period. In 2013 my oncologist said that I was healthy with little to no expectations of a recurrence. Any suggestions?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history of a seminoma of testicular type in mediastinum, testes being normal, got operated, no Chemotherapy or radiotherapy, have painful lump on the left side of solar plexus and tightness in chest.
All your history indicates the following possibility.
The lump is most probably a hernia and needs confirmation by the following ways:
Consult a General Surgeon for proper clinical examination and confirmation by Ultrasonography whether this is hernia or some lump. If it is a lump then FNAC would be more helpful.
Since so many follow up CT scans are normal the worry is less about a recurrence of Seminoma.
Tightness in chest can be due to cardiac issue, muscular or even costochondritis. Confirm the problem and get treated as per the cause found.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
