Hi ! Good evening. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.
Even though it requires a personal physical examination to arrive at a tentative diagnosis, from your history, it seems to me that you got a pilonidal cyst which caused you pain during recurrent attacks of secondary infection. If I were your doctor, I would refer you to a general surgeon, who would in addition to a clinical assessment might also advise you for a CT scan of the area to be certain that there was no intraspinal connection of the lump, following which he might decide for a surgical intervention for the same. The surgical procedure would depend on the diagnosis. However, I do not consider the condition to be dangerous if it was diagnosed to be a pilonidal cyst.
I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.
Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. I wish you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
