What Causes Painful Cracks On Fingers And Palms?

have cracked fingers/heals with patches the size of a quarter on my palms that have cracked thru several layers, very painful . have had issues with seasonal allergies in past and just within last 3-4 mos have begun to experience food allergies--consisting of itching of tongue which proceeds todifficulty swallowing/breathing. when I take large amt of benedryl symptoms subside. have had blood tests for thyroid, glucose,lipids all in normal range. am 54yrs/male/6ft2/257lbs

Hi Dear ,

As per your query you have painful cracks on fingers and palms . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like seasonal allergy , due to some medication , due to some chemical and due to some underlying disease . But in your case it seems to mr that the symptoms are due to hand eczema . The three most common conditions related to hand eczema are irritant contact dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis, and atopic dermatitis. I would suggest you to consult allergy specialist for proper diagnosis . Doctor may order test like patching test . Doctor may prescribe topical corticosteroids , antibiotics , retinoids and may recommend phototherapy ( Narrow-band UVB light and PUVA are helpful for their local immunomodulatory effect ) Use hand cleansers and moisturizers ( Petrolatum jelly ) that are free of irritating ingredients and fragrances .
