What Causes Painful Circular Bruise On Right Biceps?

My dad is about 65 and just showed me a bruise that he has on his right bicep that is in a perfect circle. He insists that he didn t hit his arm on anything, which makes me concerned. The bruising isn t painful and there is not much tenderness to it.Any input would be appreciated.

Hello,

The skin gets thinner with advancement of age and the protective fatty cushion layer gets thinner. Any blow or injury may cause bruise due to breaking of the blood capillaries or blood vessels.

However, it can also be due to bleeding or clotting disorder, side effects of certain medications, hematoma or bone fracture. He can apply ointment Thrombophob to help reduce any blood clots and swelling. For relieve from pain he can take acetaminophen (tylenol), one SOS when needed.

You are suggested to get your dad clinically examined in the ER. Get him an X-ray and CT/MRI done to rule out any major developing pathology. Get him treated at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
