What Causes Painful Bump On Shin Bone Post Injury?

I smacked my shin bone on a piece of wood furniture 6 hrs ago. There is a small, hard, painful bump. I ve been icing it for 20 min every hr while also elevating it. Is it a hematoma? No bruising or discoloration seen yet. I m a runner. Should I not run until pain & swelling disappear?

Hi.
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that due to traumatic injury to the shin there has been inflammation of the soft tissues and along with it there has been ruptured blood vessels leading to hematoma formation as well as swelling is also due to swollen tissue fibres, inflammatory exudate and accumulation of ruptured blood vessels and inflammatory cells..

I would suggest you to take anti-inflammatory painkillers like Advil or Motrin, apply an analgesic gel like Voveran [Diclofenac], apply heparin gel for faster disruption of hematoma..

You can continue icing and elevation of leg..
You should limit up physical exertion and running till it heals to prevent further pain..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
