Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband hit his pinky toe on a corner of a wall and it was pulled to the side. It bruised the base of the toe and then spread to the next two toes. Bruising now gone after 5 days. Does not hurt to bend up and down, but still does if he moves it to the side. Does not hurt after he starts walking on it. He s still been playing softball. Does it sound broken or sprained? What should he do?
Noted the history about your husband having hit his little toe to the wall, bruise that spread but settled within 5 days, can bend the toe up and down without any pain but pains on side movement and walking, still playing softball. Fracture can be diagnosed only by taking a proper X-ray of the affected area and hence should be done to confirm whether the fracture is present or not. Till then get the affected toe splinted together with the nearby toe and expended o the foot for proper support and stability for healing to occur. This is required even though there is soft tissue injury.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
