Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Years ago I broke several ribs ...I had adhesions which caused me to use pillows for props so I didn t experenice the poking or tearing pain in my chest...a few days ago I think I tore the adhesion ...went in to check out the pain in case it was cardiac...it wasn t...on the way home something about the pain seemed familiar. Aha! Probably that old ahhesion....It is quite painful and I can take pain...But quite often I experience an involuntary deep breath that takes my breath away...I m tough but I do yelp or even gasp...it s bad. I am breathing steadily and then wham...Should I be concerned.
If you had serious trauma to the same site of old fracture then you might have secondary fracture at he same site that might lead to recurrence of such severe sharp pain especially while breathing deep. Do get an Chest X ray. PA view done with inspiration and expiration thereafter you can visit a general surgeon for definitive treatment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Arihant Pandey
