What Causes Pain Underneath The Rib Cage Area?

My husband is turning 40 this week. Last Friday morning he woke up with a horrible pain on his right side, underneath his ribs. The pain is so bad he s not sleeping, and even his normal prescription pain meds aren t touching it. We went to local ER today, and he was checked for kidney stones. Nothing showed in xray ct scan or urine test, except doc thought he saw particles in his bladder. My question is what could it be? A kidney stone wouldn t cause the whole back to hurting it was in th bladder, would it?

Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your husband's situation and problem.
Since his chest x ray, CT scan, urine tests are normal, no need to worry for major Pulmonary or abdominal cause for his pain.
And bladder stone if present must have shown in CT scan.
So no need to worry for bladder stone.
Possibility of musculoskeletal pain is more in his case.
So ask him to avoid heavyweight lifting and strenuous exercise. Avoid bad postures in sleep. Avoid movements causing pain.
Along with painkiller, muscle relaxant drugs are also needed in such cases.
Application of heating pad is also beneficial in such pain.
Hope I have solved your query.
Wishing good health to your husband. Thanks.
