What Causes Pain On The Upper Left Side Of The Hip?

I ve had pain in my hipflexor before and just recently it feels almost like it is bruised...in more towards the upper left side of my hip and it also hurts a little but when I walk...do you know what it could be? It doesn t look bruised, it just feels like it.
