What Causes Pain On The Left Shin?

I have a deep dullish fading and increasing pain in my left (only) shin. It is a couple inches below my knee and seems to be 3-5 inches in length when the pain is at it s height. It is as if it ebbs and flows. The pain is mild to moderate and very annoying. I am 51, fairly healthy, 5-7 , 130 lbs and fairly active though my diet could be better. It has been going on for a few weeks. It has not really increased in amount or number of occurances. I notice it mostly when resting. Either sitting or lying down.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

The persistent pain might be underlying inflammation related, neurologic or ligament issue.

MRI of the part is highly recommended as it is very annoying.

Primary relief with ice application and analgesic medicines.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel,
