What Causes Pain On The Base Of The Middle Toes?

For the past several weeks I ve been experiencing pain on the top of my foot at the base of my middle toes. My foot is slightly swollen and it feels bruised, and is very tender to the touch. I m a 60 year old waitress, I have not changed my style of shoes or worked excessive amounts of hours. My only treatment has been soaking my foot in Epsom salts, taking Aleve and elevating it. I m not Diabetic, was just checked for Rhumatoid Arthritis and have no signs or symptoms.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to Morton's neuroma.

It is caused by a thickening of the tissue around the nerves between the bases of the toes.

Use anti-inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen.

I also recommend using cold compresses for relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi,
