What Causes Pain In Wrist After An Injury?

I fell in a three foot hole unexpectantly and slammed my knee against a cart path. Now 10 days later my wrist is starting to hurt especially when I push down. Could this possibly a delayed injury from the fall. I can t figure where else this is coming from. Can a injury take time to happen?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Pain in the wrist with discomfort pushing down is commonly due to wrist tendinitis. Yes, there are symptoms which may show up quite a few days after the injury if the wrist needed rest & you continued to strain it.

You are suggested to visit ER, get clinically examined. Get X-ray, CT or MRI done to rule out any fracture or ligament /tendon issues.

Your treatment will depend on the pathology detected. In the meantime, apply cold and warm therapy to reduce discomfort.

You may need compression bandage or splint to give the overworked tendon time to rest and heal. You can take acetaminophen or NSAIDS, for relieve.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K
