What Causes Pain In Thumbs After An Injury?

I was in gym today and i was doing gymnastics in class. Me and a friend were doing a trick that we were told to do. She wobbled a little causing me to fall down(i was on top she was on the bottom), then she fell down on top of my left hand, immediately my left thumb started to hurt, and swelled up within a few minutes. I hurts to move it, it hurts especially when i put pressure on it involving the joint. I pressed around on my thumb and it is particularly my thumb joint that hurts. It has been 4 hours since this has happened and the swelling has not seemed to have gone down, and on the lower joint, my thumb is starting to get a purple/black/green, i have not iced it but i have run it under ice cold water. It is still as swollen as it was before and still curently hurts the same after trying not to move it for 2 hours
