General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Pain in upper arm at age of 86 is likely osteoarthritis also called age related articular degeneration. With advancing age, the lubrication of joint decrease and the ends wear off. That causes pain. Treatment is fully supportive with pain killers, muscle relaxants and if severe pain, intra articular cortisone injections can be tried.

Talk to your pain management expert and let them sort out the possible treatment options in your case.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein,
General Surgeon
