What Causes Pain In The Upper Abdomen After Consuming Milk?
Hi. A few minutes (~half an hour) after I had a glass of milk, my upper abdomen was hurting and the pain spread to my back. I ve woken up three times in pain during the middle of the night/early morning to use the bathroom, and now I ve been feeling weak since I started the day. The sharp pain went away, but I m still experiencing nausea (which started around the time my upper abdomen was hurting).
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
The reason for your pain is may be due to gastritis. Sometimes the intake of milk can cause gastritis and cause severe pain in the abdomen. I would advise you to take an over-the-counter antacid like tablet Ranitidine on empty stomach for a few days.
It is also possible that the pain may be due to a more severe issue like gallbladder stone which also causes abdominal pain which radiates to the back. Other causes of abdominal pain are renal stone, appendicitis, and gastric ulcer. If your pain is not relieved or recurs, then get a USG abdomen done.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Nazma.Amman
