What Causes Pain In The Tongue?

Hello, I am with a 12 year old boy who for the last 2 days has had what look like hives in his mouth. He is quite uncomfortable and his tongue huts as well. He does not show any signs of fever, nausea, warmth in the area, bleeding or trouble breathing. We have been giving him Advil and Benedryl in the last day with little improvement. Any thoughts?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It can be a tongue inflammation or stomatitis-like condition. Along with decongestant, multivitamin tablets also can be prescribed.

Avoid excess spicy foods and hot drinks. If pain more than Ibuprofen course can be prescribed. Avoid citrus fruits juices for few days. If ulcers seen topical lidocaine gel can be applied.

Consult otorhinolaryngologist for examination and discuss all these. If you post photo more comments can be given.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
