What Causes Pain In The Tongue While Treating Throat Cancer?

Hello! My boyfriend underwent 2 Cisplatin chemos( last on 05/09/16) and 33 sessions (last one on 05/25/16)of radiation for throat/ tonsil cancer mostly on the right side. The right side of his tongue looks like pressed smashed and it is very painful near the back right side of the mouth . There are no visible sores or bleeding. He also has a lymphedema because of 1 burned lymph node. Is the radiation causing the swelling and the pain in the tongue? Is it damaged nerve , neuralgia, or mucositis? In about a week he has a PET scan and we hope there is no more cancer. If you give us any answer or advice we will greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance ! Mimi

Hello,

Those symptoms are from radiotherapy. After the treatment they will be better. If the symptoms persist then you should consult your doctor for the probability of cortisone using.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
