What Causes Pain In The Right Arm, Shoulder And Wrist?

My Mother is 71 years old and is suffering from pain in the right arm , shoulder and wrist for more than a month. She gets severe pain on trying to grip small objects with the fingers of the hand. She has shown to a doctor in the hospital and he has diagnosed it as tennis elbow. He prescribed Emanzen D , Disperzyme and Pentab DSR. She has been taking for last 6 days but there is no relief. She gets mild relief on taking rest but aggravates soon after she starts using the arm. Also once the pain increases it persists for some time and reduces very slowly on taking rest. She is also getting physiotherapy done (for 2 days now) but it also gives her mild relief for a short time only. I have heard about cortisone injection which can be giving locally for tennis elbow. Please advise on the pros and cons of taking this injection for her condition.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Tennis elbow can cause pain in the elbow and arm, with tenderness in the elbow region.
Because of abnormal movements, there may also be pain in other areas such as the shoulder or wrist but it may be best for her to have imaging of the shoulder, elbow and wrist to rule out other bony causes.

This is an important aspect of assessment and management.

In terms of the steroid injection, this is very effective for conditions such as tennis elbow because it reduces inflammation of the joint directly. It may take a few hours, up to 24 hours , to take effect. Relief can last for a long period of time.
Only one injection would likely be needed which would reduce any side effects.

The main possible complications are: (1) pain at the site,
(2)with any injection, there is a risk of introducing infection
(3)skin discoloration
(4)increased blood sugar

I hope this helps
