What Causes Pain In The Lower Back?

I ve had some lower back and neck issues with 2 level fusion 2 years ago, old age is taking a toll on my spine, etc.. Well, in the past 6 months I ve had some slight accidents at work and noticing more pain in my lower back and neck (pinched nerve that I have lost feeling in my right thumb), but 2 days ago, I had another accident at work that I was pulling a rope and the metal bracket that was attached to the wall gave way and I flew back about 3 feet into the handle of a wheel chair hitting my middle back off to the right about 2 from spine and my lower back on the wheel of the chair. Well, now I ve been having pain in my left leg, front but off on the side a little bit. Especially when I m sitting down, got my feet up, or laying in bed. Pain reminds me of Restless legs but then the pain can be stabing/burning feeling. Guess just wondering if I should rest or see a doctor. Thank you

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Since, you already have had spinal fusion surgery and have backache; the repeated falls can cause more problems in an already ailing spine that grows in advancing age. The hit in the back cause the muscles to go into spasm of the thigh and hence, causes local pain in the front and side of left thigh. The cervical spondylitis can cause the right thumb to go into numbness.

Hence, you need to undergo a fresh spinal MRI to get the exact extent of the problems, the old and fresh ones due to falls. This will allow the proper diagnosis. Till then, get a complete rest. Take an anti-inflammatory medicine like Ibuprofen that also relieves pain. Local application of Rubefacient ointment helps local warmth, relaxation of muscles.

Hope I have answered your query.
