Hi,
Based on the symptoms you have mentioned, it sounds like you may be suffering
shin splints. Shin splints are a condition in which the
soft tissue over the tibial bone gets injured because of the repeated
injury to the area while running.
This often happens in new runners and especially when one runs on a hard surface. Here are a few other risk factors as well -
Improper running shoes
Hard surface
Overused shoes
Improper running form
Usually, most people find RICE over the area useful to help with the pain. RICE stands for Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.
Rest - avoid running
Ice the area for about 15 mins every hour to help reduce the swelling
Compress the area by using a compression sleeve
Elevate the leg and raise the leg to help reduce the swelling.
Along with this, taking an over the counter pain killer can help. Please consider getting an X-ray in case the pain continues.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
