What Causes Pain In The Hips?

I ve I have been diagnosed with bursitis and arthritis of the hip and treating it with physical therapy. A recent MRI also showed bone marrow edema. The orthopedic doctor insists my hip pain is just bursitis and I am not being treated for BME. What should I do for BME?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Bone marrow inflammation can lead to fluid accumulation in bone marrow by increasing capillary permeability leading bone marrow edema. Transient osteoporosis also might be the cause apart from arthritis. Ibuprofen can be prescribed for that. Avoid weight-bearing activities and strenuous work.

If needed, Walker can be used for walking. Check calcium and vitamin D level and if needed corrected accordingly. Consult orthopedic surgeon who is experienced in joint and spine specialist for further work-up.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
