What Causes Pain In The Fingers While Gripping An Object?

I m experiencing pain when I grip cylindrical objects between my thumb and forefinger. I can feel a tendon that moves and rolls on inside of thumb into the web when I feel the area with my other hand. It only hurts when I m grasping an object in the web area. The other hand doesn t have this pain and I can feel the tendon, but it doesn t roll around or move.
