What Causes Pain In The Face And Jaw After A Temporal Bone Injury?

Tuesday of last week, stood up quickly and slammed my temporal bone onto steel bracket supporting weight lifting machine. Next day moderate pain right side of head with swelling internally, no outward sign of injury. Pain persists, sometimes sharp pain side of head and face, hurts to open jaw as in eating, talking or just a yawn. I can feel swelling inside of temporal region. Some confusion minimal, Fallon and dropping things more than usual, temporary loss of peripheral vision. I keep hoping it will heal, but each day it is the same or worse...a bad day head feels heavy, pressure like, very mild headache. I am 62, healthy, do mixed martial arts, learning Spanish and my career is in muscle therapy. I do not want to make a fuss over this, but am increasingly concerned that something is wrong. Should I make the dreaded trip to an ER.

Hi,

It can be due to fracture and trauma to adjacent temporomandibular joint that you have difficulty in mouth opening and pain on the side.

Without clinical examination and radiograph of the area including TMJ, nothing concrete can be said.

It is better to report to the emergency room for investigations and accordingly, you would be treated.

For pain and jaw relief you take Zerodol MR tablet but it is only for symptomatic relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
