What Causes Pain In The Chest?

I have been having constant dull pain in my chest on and off for over 8 years. When this happens it depletes my energy completely and makes it very difficult for me to talk. At times I can t even whisper. If I try to talk it hurts even more. At the first several years when I began to have this problem it was cyclical. Sometimes these symptoms lasted for a couple months or longer then I d have a break feeling reasonably well. During the bad cycle I can t even take care of myself. When I am doing well I can do normal activities like walking, shopping and gardening. In the last few years, my condition has gotten much worse. The dull pain is there all the time. I had my heart, my lungs, blood work and a host of scans many times. There is no diagnosis. Since last June my condition has progressed aggressively . I was bedrriden for many days and unable to do any thing. In the last couple weeks I had a few good days and regained some energy. For a few days I was able to talk almost normal but after a long conversation my chest hurts and now I can t talk any more. Can you help me?

Hi,

Pain in the chest may be due to heart or lung problems. Since many scans have been done and are normal, it makes a bit complicated. But still confirm your chest X ray results to rule out lungs and heart. Growth on the vocal cords due to difficulty in breathing and sound production and getting tired due to talking.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mutuma Geoffrey Zambezi
