What Causes Pain In The Back And Shoulders?

I have been having back and shoulder soreness for 2-3 months now. Don t know if I need a new mattress, or if it might be indicative of something else. Just a dull pain - hard to move/reach for things, sometimes hurts to walk. I m 58 yrs. old and had a good checkup and a good blood test last Dec.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I am sorry to hear that.
I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

1. I would recommend you to take rest.

2. Avoid bending at the waist if you need to pick the objects on the floor. Instead, you could sit down and pick the objects on the floor.

3. You could take painkillers like ibuprofen whenever you have severe pain( if it is not allowing you to sleep).

4. You need to perform shoulder exercises to strengthen muscles and relax muscles. I would recommend consulting a physiotherapist who will demonstrate exercises.

5. It is always better to sleep on the firm mattress rather than a soft mattress.

6. If the pain is not resolved by above lines, then you may have to get X-ray of back and shoulder and consult an orthopedics doctor.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
