What Causes Pain In The Arches Of The Feet?

I have recently developed pain in the arches of my feet, medial side towards my heels. Resting with my feet propped up does not seem to help. Tried massaging them and only seemed to make it worse. Can t see to relate it to any particular pair of shoes or boots. Wear athletic shoes or western boots. Never wear heels and only occasionally wear sandals or flip flops. Thanks, Susan

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is due to something called plantar fasciitis. As a first line management you can take analgesics like Ibuprofen or Diclofenac for pain. If pain persist, you might require steroid injection and other minor procedures. In case of persistent symptoms, better to consult an orthopedic and get evaluated.

Wishing you good health.
