What Causes Pain In The Achilles Tendon After An Insect Bite?

I am a 69 year old male of average health. During September of 2017 I was bitten on the shin of my right leg by an insect (possibly a spider) The area of the bite turned black and the surrounding area turned red. My Achilles tendon was very tight and extremely painful. I saw a doctor and he advised me to put a triple antibiotic on it and come back in a week. After a week it was much worse and painful. The redness was getting larger around the bite. I later saw a different doctor and he put me in the hospital for three and one half days and treated me with three different intravenous antibiotics. Shortly afterward my back started to really bother me. The pain would wake me every morning and I haven t had a good nights sleep since. It s been six months and sometimes the area of the bite stings and hurts and my Achilles tendon and my back muscles still hurt and wake me every morning. I feel my pain of my Achilles tendon and my back are related to the insect but I don t know who I can talk to about it.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You should consult a infectious disease specialist and thorough work up should be done. Accordingly, the necessary treatment should be started. You didn't mention whether you have done any lab tests and what's that suggestive of.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
