What Causes Pain In Tailbone While Sitting And Walking?

my tailbone has been hurting extremely bad lately to the point where I can t really get up or sit down normally. it hurts to walk long distances and sometimes even just from the couch to the bathroom in my small home. and when I squeeze my buttcheeks the pain worsens. on a scale from 1-10 and 10 being the worst I feel as if it s around a 6.5. I m afraid it will get worse as time goes on because I go to the gym almost every day. I did fall on my steps, but that was almost 2 months ago. I haven t done anything to cause the pain since. what could be wrong?? please help!

Hi
Thanks for writing your query
Based on your description this injury is called coccygodynia. You need to have x-ray of coccyx region to rule out any bony pathology. For now my advice would be-
1. Sitz’s bath- sit in the tub filled with lukewarm water for 10-15 minutes two times daily.
2. Avoid sitting on hard surface and try to sit on one buttock. Avoid jerky rides and take rest.
3. Injection of depomedrol at the site of pain also helps and may be given under medical guidance.
It usually takes 2-3 week time to heal. If the problem persists see your local doctor.
Take care and wish you good health.
