What Causes Pain In Shoulder Blade?

I have been having pain in my right shoulder when I reach up high, e.g. when reaching for something in a cabinet or when I am dressing/undressing. It is acute pain and I would rate it as about an 8. It seems to be getting worse, definitely is not getting better. I also have dull pain between my shoulder blades at times. I went swimming a few wks ago and it really helped. I guess that I will have to go an orthopedist, have been putting it off. Thank you! (I am 62 yrs. old)

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
I would first get an MRI of your shoulder to look for rotator cuff tears, impingement syndrome, or bursitis.

It isn't necessarily a surgical problem and perhaps all you need for it is a cortisone injection
