What Causes Pain In Ribs Radiating Towards Kidney?

I have pain in my rib area in the back going down to kidney area. Also now have sharp pains on the left side front rib. I take Ibprofin so that it takes the pain away, but have trouble sleeping and turning over in bed because of it. Is this the kidneys?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

If there are other urinary symptoms then it may be related to the kidneys but this is less likely if the only symptom is pain.

The other urinary symptoms are: pain on urination, change in the color or odor of urine, blood in the urine.
If there are other symptoms then you should see your doctor for assessment.

The pain may be muscular or related to the ribs in this area.

You can consider continuing the course of ibuprofen to see if the pain completely resolves.

I hope this helps
