What Causes Pain In Leg And Ear After Suffering From Cold And Fever In Children?

My 4 year old was sick last week with fever and cough. His 2 year old sister had croup. He was back to himself with a lingering cough. Today before bed he was complaining of leg pain on his shin. He woke moaning in pain about his ear. Both right side. Is this connected? I gave Advil.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.

A common cold does not associate with the ear, the diagnosis could have been an upper respiratory tract infection or even a ear infection. Ear pain can indicate many things, which I cannot list here. Better to get your child checked by an ENT specialist. As for the leg pain, it could be muscular which is commonly seen with infections resulting in dehydration.

Best wishes.
