What Causes Pain In Knees Despite Suffering From Fibromyalgia And Osteoporosis?

Good morning,I have recently had cervical spinal surgery (c5,c6). The discs had severely broken down. I was also told approximately 4 years ago that my knee cap was crumbling.I now have extreme pain in both knee caps and will be seeing an orthopedic surgeon next week.I am 49 years old and also suffer from fybromyalgia. The question I would like to ask is... What do you think the probability is that I have osteoporosis given the spinal and knee problems that I have? Thanks for your help!

Hi,

The knee pain you are experiencing may be due to osteoarthritis, a common condition that affects joints, including the knees. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including wear and tear on the joints over time, injury, or underlying conditions such as osteoporosis.

Given your age, previous diagnosis of osteoporosis, and recent cervical spinal surgery, it is possible that you have osteoarthritis in your knees as well. However, a doctor can only make a definitive diagnosis after a physical examination and possibly further tests such as X-rays or MRI.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
