What Causes Pain In Hips During Pregnancy Upon Coughing?

Hi. My name is Samantha. I just found out im around 2 mo ths pregnant with my 3 child. Ive notcied my body being different. Whenever i cough or laugh it hurts right near my hips mainly my right side. I was wondering if this could be any signs such as the baby implanted wrong or anything else?? I had a miscarriage last september amd im really afraid any of these can cause it again. I have no bleeding though.

Hello,
Thank you for your query.

Congratulations!!

Your uterus is growing now and puts pressure on the adjacent structures. This is additional to the laxity of pelvic muscles caused by pregnancy hormones & previous pregnancies.
Coughing increases this pressure & makes it all the more noticeable.
Sometimes a luteal cyst may persist in pregnancy and cause discomfort. This usually disappears in the second trimester and is of no concern except in the rare situation it being too big. (in which case it can be safely removed or decompressed by minimally invasive surgery)
A first trimester scan will help put your mind at ease. You may discuss the options & consequences if a cyst is detected.
Improper implantation would lead to constant severe pain, vomiting, bleeding. (you don't have any).
Please rest assured and visit your doctor for a scan.
Hope I've put your mind at ease. The cough needs to be treated though.
Please let us know if you have further questions.
Wish you & your baby excellent health.
I find this answer helpful
