What Causes Pain In Femur Upon Walking Post Total Hip Replacement?

Hi I had a total hip replacement a year ago this past March 26th. As I fell and fracture my left hip. Ibroke the ball right off in the fall. I have had severe pain in my femur and when I walk it hurts so bad especially if I should step wrong. Dr had me have a CT scan with contrast. The report said post operative loosening. I went to get the results of that CT scan and Dr told me he didn t see any looseing. I have to go back to him this Thursday. Do you have any suggestions for me? My new hip hasnot hurt me at all its the femur part.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.

Noted your history of hip replacement and development of pain in femur after one year, CT scan showing loosening although the Doctor says he can not see it.
One thing is for sure that you have pain means there is a problem.
If the loosening is the cause then the Orthopedic Surgeon can tell you the most appropriate management.
Till then take full rest or at least take a supportive stick to lay off the body weight to the shoulder.
Take anti-inflammatory medications.
There is a possibility of muscular origin inflammation as it comes from femur and this might have occurred due to faulty walking or slipping of foot or so on. So take care while walking.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
