What Causes Pain In Big Toes?

The tendon connecting to my big toes has been hurting for the last 6 days. It feels almost like a charlie horse on the top of my foot but it never goes away. It makes it difficult for me to move my big toe and when i do i feel a clicking or grinding. What could be wrong?

Hi,

The most common causes of toe pain include arthritis including rheumatoid arthritis, gout and other conditions like ingrown toenails, bunions, cuts or scrapes, blisters, corns, calluses etc. I advise you to:
1. Take pain relievers like acetaminophen + anti-inflammatory medications (ibuprofen)
2.Wear supportive shoes to take the pressure off big toe
3. Warm foot baths or ice pack can soothe achy joints
4. If not responding, a corticosteroid injection directly into the joint to reduce inflammation

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
