What Causes Pain In Between Rib Cage And Hip Bone?

I have had a sharp pain in my right side between my rib cage and hip bone for about a month and a half. Now, in the last two weeks I have started having pain in both sides. My doctor has done a stool test on me that came back negative, and I will have a CT scan tomorrow. What is he possibly looking for?
