What Causes Pain In Ankles And Feet While Walking?

Hi Dr. Rynne, I am trying to figure what is going on with my foot/ankle - just the right side. If I were a guessing gal, I d say nerve pain? It is a bit tingly when I am stationary. When I walk in the woods, which I do pretty much daily, if I step on an uneven surface, I get a sharp pain both in my ankle, but also on the bottom of my foot near the ball between the big toe and the one next to it.

Hi,

Your symptom of unilateral ankle pain may be because of the following causes:
1) Trauma
2) Ankle joint arthritis osteoarthritis
3) Ankle sprain
4) Plantar fasciitis
5) Gout due to excessive uric acid

In order to identify the specific cause and treat accordingly, you need to see an orthopedic doctor. Till then pain can be relieved by the following measures:
1) Tab Ibuprofen daily twice for 3 days
2) Tab Pantoprazole 40 mg once daily before food

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
