What Causes Pain In Abdomen And Ribcage?

Hi. I have had 3 episodes over the past month and a half that have the following symptoms: Sudden stabbing pain in right side of abdomen, just at the bottom of the rib cage to just a little lower. The pain is in one concentrated area when I m having it - but the site varies slightly. After tonight s onset, it has radiated up somewhat to under my ribcage up a couple of inches. I don t recall the others radiating at all. It comes on pretty much right after I eat. I have had my gal bladder removed approx. 6 years ago. This pain goes away after about an hour and it seems to be helped with ant acids. it is such a sever pain I have to double over on the floor almost immediately. I am 42, female. I am able to pass gas, and have bowel movements, although not often. I have no history of stomach or intestinal cancers in my family (that I know of - immediate family). I eat an almost vegetarian diet, very high fiber, very little processed foods or fatty foods. Mostly plant based I d say. I would like to have some professional guidance before I go to a particular doctor. I don t want to waist time or money.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

From your symptoms, it seems that you are having some problems in your duodenum(most likely duodenal ulcer).

I would like you to have antacids and a proton pump inhibitor (Pantoprazole/rabeprazole/omeprazole)along with domperidone in the required doses for atleast 4-6 months.

An upper g.i endoscopy, ultrasonography whole abdomen, and an mrcp would be helpful.
Kindly consult with a gastroenterologist with all these reports.
I find this answer helpful
